The End

After a full night's sleep the dawn cracked and woke us up. Slowly we roused ourselves waiting for the sun to peek over the bare hills to the east and warm up the tent. As soon as it did, it got hot and out we squirmed.

After breakfast of cream of wheat and dried fruit and a short dream circle, Jan and Roger taught us about things that can stick ya and sting ya in this area.

I hated hearing about he creepy spiky fishes and harsh plants, it just filled me with fear. Then we had to put on our dry suits, empty our boats, and head over to the sandy beach to practice paddle strokes, braces, and capsize rescues. In spite of seeing a big ray, maybe the size of a large serving platter, go by, I jumped into the water anyway.

Exhausted, we made it back to the campsite for lunch and then a nice siesta.

Later, that night, Roger read to us from John Steinbeck's book on the Sea of Cortez. It was touching to hear Roger's own devotion echoed by the words of that great writer. Then he gave us a lesson on finding the astrological constellations, some stars, nebulas, and the Andromeda Galaxy.
