- Campbell, Joseph. The Masks of God , Penguin Books, NY. (1962). Campbell's writings are a must for any in-depth study of mythology. The study of mythology relates to dreams in various ways and deepens your understanding of dreaming and symbols. His books are not easy reading, but well worth the effort for the serious student. This book is out of print, but the Masks of God series is available.
- Cartwright, Rosalind and Lynne Lamberg, Crisis Dreaming , Harper Perennial, NY (1993). A long time scientifically oriented sleep and dream researcher collaborated with a medical journalist. Contains RISC dream therapy and some good ideas. Out of Print.
- Cirlot, J.E. A Dictionary of Symbols , Philosophical Library, New York (1962). A compilation of archetypal symbols and interpretations as seen through writings and teachings from antiquity. Out of print, but you can try a search

- Delaney, Gayle. Living Your Dreams , 373 pages Revised edition (October 1996) Harper San Francisco; ISBN: 0062514466. A great beginning guide on working with dreams using a theatrical metaphor of the dream "producer". Book has good basic information soyou can start quickly to get meaning from your dreams. She addresses other aspects of dreams including incubation, psychic phenomena, lucid dreaming, and group dreaming.

- Delaney, Gayle. Sexual Dreams: Why we have them, what they mean , Ballantine Books, (1994). An overview of sexual issues as they appear in dreams. Not in depth coverage of any particular aspect, but a good overview - and practical as we've come to expect from her.
- Gackenbach, Jayne & Anees A. Sheikh. Dream Images: A call to mental arms , Baywood Publishing Co., Amityville, NY (1991). A collection of papers primarily on lucid dreaming, but also on various clinical and creative aspects of dreams.
- Garfield, Patricia. The Healing Power of Dreams , Simon and Schuster, NY (1991). An exploration of the link between dreams and physical health.
Garfield, Patricia. Women's Bodies, Women's Dreams, Ballantine Books, NY, (1988). An exploration of women's dreams.
- Johnson, Robert. Inner Work , Harper & Row, San Francisco. (1986). One of the best Jungian-based introductory books on dream work I've found. It is clear and introduces the process of active-imagination well.
- Jones, Richard. The Dream Poet . Schenkman Publishing Co. Cambridge MA (1980). An exciting book combining literature, group work, creative writing, and of course - Dreams. Jones shows a great way to connect the dreams to the collective. (out of print)

- Jung, Carl. Man and His Symbols . Doubleday & Co., Inc. Garden City, NY. (1964, Reissue edition (June 1997) Laureleaf; ISBN: 0440351839 ). The easiest one of Jung's books to read, it contains a wealth of information on his theory and description of archetypes. Read any of his writing for insight into his theories and the sources of many theorists today.

- LaBerge, Stephen. Lucid Dreaming , Jeremy P. Tarcher, 1985. The central work on the subject of lucid dreaming it is also a good overview of dream research.
- Mindell, Arnold. Dreambody , SIGO Press, Santa Monica, CA (1982). A Jungian therapist he has incorporated bodywork and dreamwork in several volumes of which this is the first. Combines mind/body thinking with Jung's theories as well as Eastern and Western paradigms of thinking of the psyche and body.

- Parker, Derek & Julia. Dreaming: Remembering*Interpreting*Benefiting Prentice Hall Press, NY. A good overview with a challenging symbol dictionary combined with a dictionary of dream themes. It is well illustrated that makes it fun to look at as well as interesting to read.
- Powell, James N. The Tao of Symbols , Quill, NY (1982). A good and very deep exploration into the nature of symbols and getting to the depth of their meanings.
- Roberts, Richard. Tales for Jung Folk , Vernal Equinox Press, San Anselmo, CA (1983). Understanding the use of metaphor is important in working with dreams. Roberts has written fairy tales to dramatize some of Jung's archetypes. It is fun and another way to deepen your understanding of archetypes and how they operate.
- Sanford, John. Dreams and Healing . Paulist Press, Ramsey, NJ (1978). This is a good introduction to Jungian theory as it relates to the interpretation of dreams. Easy to read it is a positive book.
- Savaary, Louis M.; Berne, Patricia H.; Williams, Strephon Kaplan. Dreams and Spiritual Growth: A Christian Approach to Dreamwork , Paulist Press, NY (1984). As title implies it looks at dreamwork through Christian perspective. Williams is a talented writer on how to work with dreams.
- Siegel, Alan B. Dreams That Can Change Your Life , Jeremy P. Tarcher, Inc. Los Angeles (1990). An overview of many different life transition dreams including nightmares and recovery from trauma as well as dreams of divorce, mid-life, and work.
- Taylor, Jeremy. Dream Work: Techniques for discovering the creative power in dreams . Paulist Press, NY (1983) (August 1984)
Paulist Press; ISBN: 0809125250. A great book, especially for group dream work. Taylor has a unique perspective on dreams and integrates social responsibility and action with his dream work. It is an inspiring book.

A collection of articles by anthropologists who have studied and gathered dreaming in many cultures. A scholarly book written largely for anthropological readers. It is useful for lay readers who want to explore some real research results.
- Ullman, Montague and Nan Zimmerman. Working with Dreams , Jeremy P. Tarcher, Inc. Los Angeles (1979). A solid overview, good for beginners and those who are interested in forming dream groups.
- Williams, Strephon Kaplan. The Junian-Senoi Dreamwork Manual , Journey Press, Berkeley, CA (1980). An amazing collection of techniques and descriptions. It is so packed with information it'll take months to get through it.
- Wilmer, Harry A. Practical Jung: Nuts and bolts of Jungian psychotherapy . Chiron Publications, Wilmette, IL (1987). An illustrated overview of Jungian therapy that is as it says: Practical. The dream section is helpful and grounding.
- Wolman, Benjamin. Handbook of Dreams: Research, theories and applications . Van Nostrand Reinhold Co. NY (1979). A collection of papers from varied perspectives. It's dated, but has some good, basic information. Useful for those wanting more bio-physiological information as well as overviews of various aspects from a more scientific point of view.

- Association for the Study of Dreams . P.O. Box 1600 Vienna, VA 22183. International association of many disciplines working with dreams. A truly exciting venture which tries to honor all approaches to working with dreams from highly scientific to the personal dream explorer. They publish a scholarly journal Dreaming and a quarterly newsletter.
- Dream Network Journal . 1337 Powerhouse Lane Suite #22, Moab, UT 84532. A great journal containing many kinds of dream related work, articles, poetry, artwork, ideas, and networking.
