Oriental Medicine

Oriental Medicine in increasingly popular in western countries, including the U.S. This system has had many centuries of development and has managed to keep millions of people healthy in the world. The form most recognized in the U.S. is Acupuncture. However, practitioners trained in Acupuncture typically will use other kinds of Oriental Medicine such as herbal remedies in conjunction with Acupuncture treatement.

Increasinly, studies are showing that Acupuncture is proving to be effective with chronic conditions such as insomnia. There are some symptoms that the Oriental Medicine practitioner will use for diagnosis that seem unrelated to western understanding of body systems. Tinnitus is such a symptom. The presence of Tinnitus can indicate trouble in the Heart meridian which can be involved in a sleep problem.

When visiting an Oriental Medicine specialist, please be sure to include all the symptoms you've got, whether you think they are related to your insomnia or not.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is an ancient form of healing that treats the bodies energy system. It is practiced by people trained in Oriental Medicine. It can, but does not have to, involve using very thin needles that are placed in strategic points of the body. The practitioner determines the nature of your problem and your general system to decide where and how to treat you.

There are increasing numbers of acupuncturists being trained and, in some states, licensed to practice in the US.

Acupressure

This is a system of putting pressure on various points in the body's energetic system. It is tied to the systems studied by Acupuncture professionals.

One method some people like to use for insomnia is toe tape a dried bean (kidney bean or another large-sized bean) to the inside of the right wrist. The location is found between the two tendons in the wrist about two or maybe three finger widths up the arm from the wrist crease.
